How We Are Funded
The Boston Ronald McDonald House is an independent community-supported nonprofit organization [501(c)(3)] that opened its doors in 1979, establishing itself as the eighth House in the country.
About 90% of funding for the Boston Ronald McDonald House comes from companies in the community, organizations, foundations, and individuals, like you!
Ronald McDonald Houses have been McDonald’s “charity of choice” since the first House was founded in Philadelphia in 1974. Since opening our doors, McDonald’s Corporation, local Owner/Operators, McDonald’s vendors, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England have generously provided financial and in-kind support to the House.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England is our largest donor, providing about 10% of our operating costs each year.
We are responsible for raising the remaining 90% of our annual operating budget. Most of our funding comes from individuals, including families who have stayed at the House and want to give something back; other funding comes from generous corporations, foundations, and various organizations, both big and small.
Despite our name and blue ribbon affiliations, we are a community supported non-profit, responsible for raising about 90% of our annual operating budget.
