How We Are Funded

More than 90% of our funding comes from companies in the community, civic and religious groups, foundations, and individuals, like you!

The Boston Ronald McDonald House is an independent community-supported nonprofit organization [501(c)(3)] that opened its doors in 1979, establishing itself as the eighth House in the country.

Ronald McDonald Houses have been McDonald’s “charity of choice” since the first House was founded in Philadelphia in 1974.  Since opening our doors, McDonald’s Corporation, local Owner/Operators, McDonald’s vendors, and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England have generously provided financial and in-kind support to the House. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England is our largest donor, providing about 10% of our operating costs each year.

We are responsible for raising the remaining 90% of our annual operating budget. Most of our funds comes from individuals, including families who have stayed at the House and want to give something back; other funding comes from generous corporations, foundations, and religious and civic groups.

"Ashley agrees that the House was her greatest support. At the House, she was normal. At the House, everything seemed normal. Being bald. Cruising around in a wheelchair or with a portable IV. “We love the House. It’s like our own home now,” Kristy says. “We belong here,” Ashley chimes in."
